Born in suburbia, I moved to the city at 21, to live in South Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. I have been interested in art ever since I can remember. When I was six I was drawing little pictures of Daleks fighting (from TV Series Dr Who) and later Space Ships and the like. Entering many art competitions when young, by building spacecraft from objects around the house ranging from toothpaste lids to car parts. Can you see a Science Fiction theme here??

When living in South Melbourne I set up a workshop in my spare room, much to the displeasure of my neighbours, OK! I promise not to drill and grind after 11:00 PM!!

During visits to London, Paris and Amsterdam, I made sure I visited all the history museums, science museums and contemporary art galleries I could find.

At this stage I was working as a Computer Network Engineer. Also wishing I could make a living out of art and sculpture, and working hard to make it happen.

In January 2001 I was commissioned to make some sculptures for some advertisements. How cool is that!

In March 2002 I moved to Windsor. This was so I could have a bit more room to work, and have a real workshop, not just a 'second bedroom in an apartment pretending to be a workshop' (sure the neighbours were pleased about that!)

While in living in Windsor I started my own Business Development company - Fresh Insight (www.freshinsight.com.au)
and also trained and have my masters in NLP Neuro-Linguistic Programming

In December 2005 I moved to Eltham. I have a bigger house, more rooms, a really cool workshop and also a home office so I can run my company from home. I am also surrounded by trees, kookaburras, possums, a very tame magpie that tries to come into my office looking for food, and my two lovely schnauzers Merlin and Ruby.

Favourite TV shows at the moment are: HEROES, RED DWARF, FATHER TED, SCRUBS, X-FILES, FRIENDS, STARGATE (SG1 and Atlantis) and FARSCAPE.

Cool stuff,
I am working on an alien that shall have a interactive, generated soundtrack using Max/MSP. It shall also have sensors, lights, and eyes (3) which follow you about the room!
I have never attempted a sculpture before, but being a native New Mexican, this alien art thing should be a natural, eh?
It started with dabbling with Max/MSP and now I am researching alien art. So far, yours is the most interesting, and closest to my aspired result. You should do some work for the UFO Museum here in Roswell. (If you have not done some, already.)

Wow, love to see your finished work. I have never been to Roswell, and next time I am in the USA, I am certainly going to make it there... I think its the Mecca for sci-fi nerds yes? haha

Get in touch with some photos of your work (and progress shots)
Warmly, Marty

I am enough of an artist to draw freely upon my imagination. Imagination is more important than knowledge. Knowledge is limited. Imagination encircles the world.

Wasp

wasp metal chrome steel - Sci-fi Art Sculpture Watch that sting!

A wasp born out of technology gone feral.
This not so little critter is the result of a science experiment gone wrong. A batch of artificial intelligence chips prematurely activated in a lab, and fused with a nano-technology experiment. The chips and nano’s formed the first thing they saw, a collection of insects and other creepy crawlies...
