Freeze sucker!

Weapon of choice for nine out of ten space travellers, is the Plasma Blaster pistol.

In the 20th century science fiction always talked about the laser gun. Probably why a laser based gun and other weapons were the first developed. They did however have a serious drawback in a battle.
After the first few explosions, large amounts of dust and smoke would reflect and dissipate the laser light, rendering a laser based gun, rifle or other laser weapons ineffective.
Lack of stopping power was another drawback. When a two tonne alien beast is bearing down on you, burning a hole clean through him is more likely to piss him off than slow him down. Not to mention, squeezing off a round in a confined area with reflective walls can prove fatal for everyone in the vicinity. Including the moron with the gun!

Enter: Plasma Blaster pistols, rifles and other hand gun type weapons.

Firing a bolt of super charged, super heated plasma particles will do a lot of damage. With a Plasma Blaster, walls (reflective or otherwise), vehicles, even body parts will evaporate away with ease. Actually body parts, due to the high moisture content and steam pressure effect, seem to explode but that's what stopping power is all about.

This Plasma Blaster model features a red-dot laser scope, activated by the hand grip.

My objection is that when a laser hits something, it doesn't burn a nice clean hole, but rather, since whatever solid or liquid it hit is now a superheated vapor at extremely high pressure, there's basically an explosion on the spot, and lots of ripping and gore and mess. If your laser gun was powerful enough to burn a hole through that beast in one shot, then I'm guessing that the state of the rest of the beast would be 'splattered over the walls'.

Oh, and for dust and vapor: Infrared.

Good point, and you have to trust a FriendlyMadScientist....

So what I will do, is get my notebook, gather up a plasma pistol, laser gun and arc weapon- just for good measure and conduct a scientific test... I will let you know the results....

.... I might take along a few clean shirts too, I think I will be needing them!

Warmly, Marty

Wasp

wasp metal chrome steel - Sci-fi Art Sculpture Watch that sting!

A wasp born out of technology gone feral.
This not so little critter is the result of a science experiment gone wrong. A batch of artificial intelligence chips prematurely activated in a lab, and fused with a nano-technology experiment. The chips and nano’s formed the first thing they saw, a collection of insects and other creepy crawlies...
