A clock with a difference

Ok, do you want the long version, or the short version?

SHORT VERSION:
It's the Hexanium Self Destruct Device from a Class III Star Hopper. A little rewiring has been done so that it shows the time.

Beware! I got this at a wrecking yard on one of the asteroids near the Altair system, and the owner helped me rewire it. We had just finished a four-hour drinking session, and were a bit drunk. Well, actually, a lot drunk, and it's a miracle we didn't blow ourselves to bits. I know it's a rough job around the edges, but like I said, I was pissed when I ripped it out. I think we rewired it right...  Anyway, if the display goes red, and starts counting down, run baby run!

LONG VERSION:
In 2434 a pilot was in final approach to an orbital space station. The pilot suffered a heart attack, and as he collapsed on the flight deck, just happened to disengage the autopilot with his head as it bounced off the console. His craft slammed into the side of the space station, and made quite a mess.

Traffic control, even though they realised what was happening, could not shoot him down due to the cargo his ship held. If it exploded, it would have destroyed the whole space station. The safer option was to let him ram them and hope he didn't explode.

In 2435 it was made law that spacecraft have a Hexanium Self Destruct device that could be remotely activated by orbital spaceports.

Hexanium used in a fission device is the ideal way to take out a craft in an emergency. It will consume 99% of the mass of the craft, leaving minimal radiation and residue. Volatile cargo is not a problem, as the hexanium device will just consume it. (Unless the cargo is hexanium and that's another story!)

FINAL NOTE:
In 2438 some terrorists got hold of the remote activation codes and destroyed 257 craft in a period of 48 hours. Two weeks later it was no longer law that spacecraft carry a Hexanium Self Destruct device.

Art work constructed from found objects, mainly stainless steel, wire, a clock, copper pipe and other various parts. Looks great at night!

That one is sold, however I can build you one from scratch - I regularly do commission by request work.
Note that each piece I make is unique, so it will not look exactly the same, and feel free to let me know your favourite sci-fi look.
I invest a lot of thought and effort into crafting something unique that you will love.
Shipping to the UK is possible send me a message via the contact us page.
Warmly, Marty

I am enough of an artist to draw freely upon my imagination. Imagination is more important than knowledge. Knowledge is limited. Imagination encircles the world.

Pressure: Sci-Fi Industrial Chemical Tank Sculpture

View: Pressure: Sci-Fi Industrial Chemical Tank SculptureSteel Sculpture features a mix of Sci-Fi industrial theme with a dash of steampunk.

An abandoned chemical facility may hold a dark secret.
All but one of a series of tanks have been drained. What is in this remaining mysterious reservoir?

The pressure builds causing the thick steel tank to buckle and swell.
As a gauge moves into the ominously red marked danger zone, a foreboding glow emanates through the porthole window.

What will be released if the tank ruptures?
