Teleport Transporters Wormholes and Other Sci-Fi Beam Me Up Technology

Written by Martin Dolan

artwork drawing of the science fiction alien Machine in the movie contact - wormhole art at its finest

There are many science fiction shows that feature a teleport or transporter device of some description.

Basically a device to disassemble an object or person and then reassemble them at some great distance away.

Noteable sci-fi examples are:
  • Blake's 7, the ship Liberator and Scorpio were equipped witha teleport.
  • Most of the ships in Star Trek have a transporter
  • The aliens known as the Asgard in Stargate SG1 had Beaming Technology
  • In the 70's show the Tomorrow People could Jaunt with the power of their mind alone for short distances, and with the aid of a funky belt to help them focus for longer distances.
  • And in less sci-fi and more fantasy - The Harry Potter books have the flue network where people can teleport themselves around via a network of fireplaces.

Transporters, Teleports, Wormholes and the like are in useful plot device for getting a science fiction crew member out of trouble in the nick of time
A quick way to cover travel time and vast distances: The Stargate in Stargate SG1, and Atlantis. Also the alien "Machine" in the brilliant book and movie Contact.
And basically cut through a lot of effort (and sci-fi special effects costs) getting the crew of a space ship down to a planet.  Especially when the ship is not all that aerodynamic.

They can also go wrong and cause all sorts of hyjinks: As in the TV series Sliders, the movie The Fly, I even recall a movie where someone got teleported with their ass backwards. I am sure Mel Brooks had something to do with that one - was it Spaceballs?

...all really cool Wormholes, quantum physics, sci-fi tech...

And then my friend there is this example...

...nice one

And here are some shots of your favourite Sci-fi Movies and science fiction TV shows jumping, sliding and beaming away...

Then there is beaming yourself through time.
But time travel is another story! - Until I finish building the time machine anyway...

A mozzie born out of technology gone feral.
This is another not so little critter born from a science experiment gone wrong on Enna Prime. A batch of artificial intelligence chips prematurely activated in a lab, and fused with a nano technology experiment. The chips and nano’s formed the first thing they saw...
