MOON: Sci-Fi Movie Staring Sam Rockwell Looks to be a 950,000 Mile Trip of the Best Kind

Written by Martin Dolan

Click to enlarge the artwork of MOON- Artwork for the movie poster and the trailer of this sc-fi masterpiece.

The movie trailer for MOON looks like your classic good quality science fiction artistic movie. Quality acting, ideas music and visuals.

The tagline:

MOON
950,000 miles from home
the hardest thing to face...
is yourself.

MOON is an independent sci-fi movie directed by Duncan Jones (AKA David Bowie’s son – Zowie Bowie) staring Sam Rockwell, and has a bit of a 2001 feel, not afraid to have periods of silence from time to time.  As you would if you were stuck on the moon by yourself for 3 years.

Like the best science fiction masterpieces, MOON is more about story and characters than explosions and special effects.

Don’t misunderstand me,  there is nothing wrong with that - Terminator, Iron Man, Fith Element etc. were great with all the bang and sparkle sci-fi special effects...

... but so were Gattaca and 2001: A Space Odyssey, which did well without.

PS: Michael Bay – AKA: Mr Explosions - Please watch this and take some notes before you direct another movie!

Update from Sony Pictures:

Moon opens tomorrow (8th October 2009) in Australia and is screening in WA, VIC, SA, QLD, ACT, and NSW at 14 locations.
So check the cinema guides in local newspapers for session times.

Andrew, it is opening at the Cinema Nova, Palace Brighton Bay, Rivoli Cinemas Camberwell and Europa Jam Factory, South Yarra on October 8, 2009 in Victoria

   - which are the 'arty' cinemas. I suspect it will be the same around Australia.

If you have no luck finding out, you can try calling one of those listed above and ask if they know (or have a counterpart interstate. I have also sent an email to Sony to ask them, and will post that when I know....

Cheers, Marty

PS. word back from Sony is:

Moon is screening in WA, VIC, SA, QLD, ACT, and NSW at 14 locations.

It opens tomorrow (08/10/2009) so check the cinema guides in local newspapers for session times.

blaster gun laser plasma pistol - Sci-fi Art SculptureFreeze sucker!

Weapon of choice for nine out of ten space travellers, is the Plasma Blaster pistol.

In the 20th century science fiction always talked about the laser gun. Probably why a laser based gun and other weapons were the first developed. They did however have a serious drawback...
